Press release on the General Environmental Licensing Bill, PL 2159/2021
Several Members of the European Parliament sent a letter to Hugo Motta, President of the Chamber of Deputies, regarding their concerns on the General Environmental Licensing Bill.
Please find below the letter and a statement by Anna Cavazzini, Member of the European Parliament, and Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the Federative Republic of Brazil:
„Friendship between Brazil and the European Union is more important than ever during these challenging times. It is based on shared values, such as the commitment to a global agenda for sustainable development and combating the climate crisis. Several Members of the European Parliament are deeply concerned about the rollback of environmental legislation in Brazil, as exemplified by the General Environmental Licensing Bill. One can also see this happening here in the European Union, where the European Green Deal is under attack by the political right. Together, we must move forward, not backward. Therefore, I urge the Chamber of Deputies to preserve the level of environmental protection and not put the bill to a vote.“
